Finding the Perfect RV: Fifth Wheels and Motorhomes
If you’re new to RVing, all the models and vehicles can be overwhelming. Last week, we ran through Travel Trailers. Let’s take a look at Fifth Wheels and Motorhomes.
The sumptuous world of Fifth Wheels
Designed to be towed by a pickup truck, Fifth Wheels (FW) are luxury on wheels! Built with a raised forward section, they offer a spacious, split-level design. Most include a bedroom, living room, kitchen, bathroom as well as outside storage space. Some have as many as four slide-outs you can activate with the push of a button. These RVs get their name from the hitch that attaches to their towing vehicle. Ranging from 21-40 ft, they’re surprisingly easy to handle and can sleep 8.Transportation and living space rolled into one: Motorhomes
If you’re looking for a vacation vehicle that’s easy to drive and comes furnished with all the comforts of home, Motorhomes might be the RV for you. Motorhomes are divided into three categories: the roomy Class A; compact Class B camper vans and the truck-like Class C.The super-luxurious Class A
The largest of the motorhomes, the Class A is roomy and luxurious. A master bedroom suite, full size kitchen and bathroom, entertainment centre, laundry, central heating and air conditioning, many also have multiple slide-out sections for additional living and sleeping space. Ranging from 21-45 ft, with tons of storage space, some can accommodate ten people! These vehicles have strong, heavy-duty frames and are built on a large chassis, similar to those used by 18-wheelers. They can easily tow – even carry — a small car or trailer, so you can bring along a boat, golf cart or snowmobile. Class A Motorhomes are available with either gas or diesel engines.Cleverly designed and economical: The Class B
Class B Motorhomes – also called camper vans – may look like an oversized van from the outside, but don’t be fooled! A raised roof means they’re tall enough to stand up in and they can sleep up to 4 people. At 16 to 21 ft long, most include a small kitchen, living room and bathroom with a shower. Class B Motorhomes are the easiest to drive, park and can navigate the windiest mountain or back country roads. They’re the easiest on fuel and, as the least expensive motorhome, easiest on your budget. You’ll often see the Class B doing double duty as a second family vehicle. If you value economy, then these are for you!
Roomy and family-friendly: The Class C
Immediately recognizable with their distinctive cab and overhead bunk, the Class C Motorhome is a great choice for first-time RVers. Offering ample sleeping and storage space, as well as kitchen and bathroom facilities, many also have a slide-out option that can add up to 3-½ ft of living space by shifting the exterior wall. Ranging from 21-35 ft, they’re easy to park and can navigate side roads. There are both gas and diesel models, either of which can easily tow a small car, snowmobile, ATV, canoe.Experience Fifth Wheels and Motorhomes for yourself at the Toronto Fall RV Show & Sale
